5 basic e-liquid safety tips
The FDA warns that E-cigarettes, which include rechargeable batteries, cartridges, and bottles containing e-liquid (liquid nicotine mixtures), can pose a threat to human health and the environment. Therefore, E-cigarettes and e-liquid waste should not be thrown in regular garbage or dumped in the sink. Instead, these items should be moved to a hazardous waste disposal site. The following are some of the best practices and information compiled from government health departments and non-profit public health organizations. In addition, here are five important safety tips to keep in mind when working with hot liquid.
1. Safe storage: If you have small children, you can (and should) be very careful about how and where to store your ventilation equipment. E-liquid should be stored in high, inaccessible cupboards or locked boxes, as this prevents children and toddlers from getting into the bottle. Pure nicotine and e-liquid are also burning. In addition, because pure nicotine and e-liquid are flexible, they should be stored in a dark, cool place away from heat and flames. Because of this, it lasts longer.
2. Child Protections: If possible, parents with small children should use protective caps. Although child protection caps are inaccessible, they limit children.
3. Cleaning Spill: If you do not have a full cartridge and you have to fill your e-cigarette by hand, remember that Nicotine Vape Juice can be absorbed through your skin. Although most e-liquid bottles include a dripper tip to avoid spills, you still have to be careful. Any spills should be cleaned immediately, and any exposed skin or clothing should be washed thoroughly.
4 Talk to Your Children: When your children are older, you may want to sit down and talk with them, avoiding all the unsafe things at home. Make sure they understand that e-liquid is not a pleasant pastime and should be avoided.
5. Proper Disposal: Lastly, do not pour e-liquid into the drain. If you need to dispose of electronic liquid (not because it is damaged), pour the liquid into the trash can in a sealed plastic bag and throw it in the trash. This keeps nicotine from getting into the groundwater and makes it harder for a dog, baby, or dumpster diver to get sick from e-liquid.
